AV News 183 - February 2011
Think Photography
Richard Brown FRPS
Over the weekend of 13th and 14th of
November, the RPS held the second 'Think
Photography' event. This was a showcase
for the Society's activities, which also
included presentations, trade stands and
exhibitions. The RPS specialist interest
groups were invited to be present and ten
different groups had stands. The event was
held at 'The Public', an innovative new arts
centre in West Bromwich with a distinctive
modern appearance.
On the Saturday, the AV Group was
represented by Keith Scott and Brian Jeffs. In
the afternoon, Keith Brown was on the lecture
list and presented a most interesting talk about
the making of his highly successful sequence
'The Quiet One'. It was nice to see both the
President and Vice President of the RPS at
Keith's presentation, which was a good bit of
PR for the Group.
On Sunday, the stand was manned by Malcolm Imhoff and myself and we met
quite a wide variety of visitors throughout the day. Many of the folk we talked to
were already RPS members who had dabbled in making AV presentations and
several indicated that they would be interested in joining the AV Group on their
next subscription round, which was most encouraging.
Given that only about a third of RPS members are members of groups, there
is a fair amount of potential for recruitment still. Overall, the RPS grandees
seemed pleased with the success of the event and it was good to have the
opportunity to raise the profile of the AV Group outside of our normal audience.
