AV Three Way Battle
Dr John Robertson
Treasurer of the Southern PF
Invitation - I was invited by the secretary of North Hants Camera Club to
observe the running and content of an audio visual competition between North
Hants, Overton and Winchester on Friday 4th November. Apart from a quick
trawl of the internet, this was my first introduction to a live audio visual 'battle'.
The weather wasn't good and didn't help when trying to find the venue.
However, there was plenty of good parking and the inside was typical of many
village halls. I helped to lay out the chairs and watched the set up of the screen
and projector.
The competition - There were 15 audio visual shows during the evening, five
shows from each club. A running schedule had been prepared and distributed
in advance of the competition. A tea break was scheduled after the first nine
had been shown. I was impressed with the wide variety of presentations and
content. The evening started with a Farnborough show complete with loud RAF
music. I did like the way in which the author had used the software to 'move' the
aircraft across the screen. I subsequently emailed a colleague and found out
that they were using Proshow. The show that I enjoyed the most was 'The
importance of weeds'. Very educational. It contained high quality images good
transitions and one of the few to have an excellent and clear commentary. The
lowest mark given by the judge at the end of the evening was 15 out of 20. I
couldn't agree with the mark given for this particular show of 16. In another
show, using good images from Winchester Cathedral, I found that the
sequence didn't flow for me.
Comments - Some of the shows were very good but did lack a clear ending
