AV News 187 - February 2012
Sounds Good to Us
Linda & Edgar Gibbs
It all started when John
Willett presented us with the
Federation
Internationale
Des Chasseurs de Sons
(FCIS), or International
Federation
of
Sound
Hunters, Jean Thevenot
Medal for the 'Best Sound' at the 2007 RPS
International Audio Visual Festival. John said it would
be good if we entered Talbot House for the British Sound Recording Contest.
Moving forward to April 2011, Ken Geen, professional (ex BBC) sound
engineer and past AV maker contacted us and asked if we would enter a
sequence into the British Sound Recording Contest, Multimedia category. We
checked the rules, showed him Talbot House and it was agreed that we would
enter the sequence.
The organisation, as it name suggests, is formed around sound quality and
the use of sound, so a simple sequence with one piece of music would not have
fulfilled the requirements.
Judging took place with specialist judges for each category. We received
judge's comments, which are always interesting and much appreciated in order
to help us improve our work.
The results were out and to our delight we had won our category. Ken then
told us that Talbot House would then be put forward to represent the UK at the
International Amateur Recording Contest which was being held at Bern,
Switzerland. Ken and some of his British Sound Recording Association (BSRA)
colleagues went to Bern and were delighted that the UK entry Talbot House had
won the Multimedia
category overall.
We went to the
BSRA Awards day in
the Musical Museum,
London to receive
our awards. It was a
very enjoyable event
and gave us further
encouragement. We
shall certainly enter
again.
The BSRA would
like to encourage
entries with a good
quality soundtrack to
enter the Multimedia category next year.
Please note that the maximum duration time is 8 minutes and the full rules
