AV News 187 - February 2012 Is Feidir Linn Lilian Webb A.I.P.F. The Irish Photographic Federation's 29th National Audio Visual Championships & 3rd Open Audio Visual Competition was a very successful weekend, held in Clondalkin, Dublin on 15th & 16th October 2011 - not only for the prize winners but also a very social and sociable event on the IPF's calendar of events. The judge was Richard Brown FRPS EFIAP FIPF APAGB. Richard had judged the championships in Galway in 2002 and had attended and won the 2nd open Audio Visual Competition two years ago. His comments, advice and constructive criticism were well received by the entrants and the spectators - and all learnt a lot from him. It was great to have an hour on the Sunday to see some of Richard's prize winning sequences including the winning sequence of the UK National Championships in Sutton Bonington a couple of weeks previously. A presentation was made to Frank Malthouse LIPF, of the Brendan Walkin medal for his services to the IPF and in particular to his chairmanship of the IPF AV Group Committee since its inception in May 1999 to November of last year. Brendan O'Sullivan, current chairman of the IPF AV Group Committee welcomed all on the Saturday and there were two empty chairs at the front in memory of Kieran O'Loughlin FIPF ARPS, a member of the committee also since its inception and voted chairman just last November, who died in May of this year and also to Peter Coles FRPS FIPF, who had judged in Shannon a couple of years ago. In memory of Kieran, Mary O'Loughlin was presented with the overall trophy, which had been won by Kieran more times than any other and a trophy was bought to be presented to the overall winner of the national championships, the Kieran O'Loughlin Memorial Trophy. During the Sunday afternoon, four of Kieran's prize winning sequences were shown and it would have been possible to hear a pin drop as the sequences were watched. Kieran had a remarkable talent for all aspects of audio visual, which he readily shared with all and had only set up the Shannon Camera Club AV group earlier this year. As a tribute, the members of Shannon Camera Club entered seven sequences. Page 18
