She then took us through the elements of PicturesToExe, reminding us of many
of the basics and also including many new Photoshop tips; as an example, for
me - if no-one else - it was valuable to learn that, when saving images for PTE,
"Save to web" has a better compression algorithm than "save as". The use of
Layer Masks when preparing images was also very clearly demonstrated.
John did an equally clear and
thorough job of demonstrating the
capabilities of the newest version
of Audacity, with information about
sample rates and their importance,
a demonstration of how you would
assemble a soundtrack from
varied sources, matching track
length to the precise time required
by the images, adding voice-over
and exporting to MP3.

introduced to some of the finer
points of the new versions of PTE, in particular the use of zooming, panning
and scrolling and the potential of PNG files.
As a wonderful finale, we were treated to showings of Jill's beautiful
sequence "The Colour Thief" and John's superb "The Messiah", both - as
readers of this magazine will know - recently very successful in the Adelaide
AVFest.
Another excellent day; thanks are due to all the contributors, but especially
