AV News 177 - August 2009 She then took us through the elements of PicturesToExe, reminding us of many of the basics and also including many new Photoshop tips; as an example, for me - if no-one else - it was valuable to learn that, when saving images for PTE, "Save to web" has a better compression algorithm than "save as". The use of Layer Masks when preparing images was also very clearly demonstrated. John did an equally clear and thorough job of demonstrating the capabilities of the newest version of Audacity, with information about sample rates and their importance, a demonstration of how you would assemble a soundtrack from varied sources, matching track length to the precise time required by the images, adding voice-over and exporting to MP3. In the final session, we were It's on the Computer - Somewhere ! introduced to some of the finer points of the new versions of PTE, in particular the use of zooming, panning and scrolling and the potential of PNG files. As a wonderful finale, we were treated to showings of Jill's beautiful sequence "The Colour Thief" and John's superb "The Messiah", both - as readers of this magazine will know - recently very successful in the Adelaide AVFest. Another excellent day; thanks are due to all the contributors, but especially to Jill and John and to Ian Jolly for organising the day. We meet again on Saturday October 24th; the speaker is Keith Suddaby FRPS - put it in your diary now!
