AV News 177 - August 2009
The formula we used is described in detail because there is another way to
process the results. Instead of using ranks, the judges’ points (out of 100) can
be summed and the highest total then being the winner. This formula results
in different winners from the rank method because of different judges often
giving widely different points to the same AV. The method of ranking smoothes
out exaggerated divergences between judges and is recommended.
The most successful club was chosen on the basis of summing the scores
of all accepted AVs per club. Magalies Foto Fun Club won with 2376 points
from 11 Acceptances.
Resulting from the competition, various improvements are being planned.
One new development is the introduction of a discussion forum to which all the
entrants were invited. The idea is to encourage the exchange of views and
provide a help forum for fellow AV developers. The forum is at
http://groups.google.co.za/group/mffc-av-interest-group?hl=en and if any
AV enthusiasts would like to join, they need only ask.
I was the Salon Director, capably assisted by our club chairlady, Marthie
Bredenkamp and a small committee. As
Judging had been done remotely the
awards evening was to announce and
project the acceptances, 33 of them and
hand over medals and certificates. We
had an audience of about 60 for the
evening. At the close, I was handed a
bottle of the best SA wine by our
chairlady. Our star worker, Annelize de
Jager was presented with her awards by
the former chairlady of the club, along
with Ria Katzke and Marthie Bredenkamp.
The good news is that the club
is planning for their second
national AV salon to be held
early next year. This salon will
be open to enthusiasts from
around the world and the
organizers hope to receive a
few entries from overseas.
