AV News 196 - May 2014
A very private person, Tony has contributed extensively to photographic
administration, most often quietly in the background, but fulfilling important
roles. His closest friend, who he travelled with in his 20s, has only now become
aware of some of his achievements and awards. I first met Tony at Epsom
Camera Club in 1988 and although a stalwart member we never saw his AV
work, how typical of Tony. His other interests were his garden and cooking; he
was known as an excellent cook, his Aga was certainly his pride and joy,
second only to his camera. In the last two years his health prevented him from
travelling but he continued to appreciate good images.
Tony died peacefully at his home of 65 years on 9th February 2014. A gentle
man and a gentleman, Tony leaves no family but will be remembered by his
many friends.

With good wines there are years that are considered vintage years and so it
was with the 2014 Northern Ireland Photographic Association Audio Visual
Festival held at The Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl.
We were delighted to have Malcolm and Maggie Imhoff as Guest Judges
and as usual our judges show
their sequences on the Friday
night. Following the opening by
the Mayor of Newtownabbey who
recalled last year's winning
sequence and his enjoyment of it
in his remarks, the audience
which included a large contingent
who had travelled up from the Irish
Republic (IPF) was treated to a
wonderful set of sequences,
culminating with Malcolm's 'Soul
Music'. A great start to the festival.
Saturday morning, and the judges were in place to view a record entry for
the NIPA AV Championship and The NIPA All Ireland Competition. The
Championship is competed for by members of NIPA clubs only, while the All
Ireland sees NIPA (Northern Ireland) and IPF (Irish Photographic Federation)
club members in competition. The winner from the IPF Championship held
the previous October, also competes against the NIPA Championship winner
for the Inter Federation Medal.
We think they work hard enough for their supper but Malcolm and Maggie
not only judged the entries but commented on every sequence much to the
delight and education of the entrants and general audience. After six hours of
judging they were at last able to relax and go to dinner.
Saturday night and another record audience came to the Awards showing.
Here the award winning sequences are shown and the presentations made.
