Shortly after arrival on 20th October I was pounced on and asked to write a
report so here goes.
The day started with a tribute to Ian Jolly LRPS CPAGB
the previous organiser and who had recently died. Two
of his sequences were shown in tribute 'Glory of the
Garden' and 'Sun and Sky and Sea and Sky'.
As this was the first meeting since going alone and
joining the NCPF an AGM was held to make matters
formal and tie up loose ends.
Traditionally at these events time is given to the showing of attendee's
sequences and at this meeting the subject matters varied. David Rodway and
Jeff Evans both dealt with gardens, Howick Hall in Northumberland and
Tresco in the Isles of Scilly respectively. Steve McDonald showed a Grand
Day Out which dealt with dolphins off the Northumberland Coast. John Patton
a native of the City of Londonderry showed City of Culture which dealt with its
status as a City of Culture for 2013. Val Burdis took us to Portmerion. Peter
Appleton showed the ‘Secret of the Snakestones’ which dealt with the
geology of the North Yorkshire Coast. Andrew Nichol had us in the Cheviots
in Winter. Les Ayres came up with something completely different 'More than
Graffiti' which was about Street Art.
All authors received feedback from the guest speaker Brian Jeffs and also
other members of the audience. A feature of some sequences was the
inclusion of both still and moving images which I personally found difficult to
cope with.
The guest speaker of the day was Brian Jeffs FRPS DPAGB from Leicester
who started his presentation with a section 'Keep It Simple' which were
sequences to a piece of music or song. He then moved on to showing how
he built up and made his sequences before finishing with some documentary
and travel sequences. He mentioned two good points; to use appropriate
music for a sequence and not to overdo special effects and not to use them
just because you can.
All in all a good and varied day and looking forward to the next one.
