AV News 175 - February 2009 Editorial Jill K Bunting CPAGB & John Smith APAGB CPAGB Doesn't time fly when you are having fun? Another New Year has come and gone since our first edition of this magazine hopefully popped through your letter box at the beginning of November. Possibly you are all being very polite, but from the comments we have received, it would appear that we have been successful in our joint efforts to produce an interesting, informative and diverse magazine ... and that you 'couldn't see the join' between ours and the wonderful issues previously produced by Joan and Glyn. Firstly may we especially thank all those people whom Jill has pounced on at the start of an AV event and 'persuaded' them to take the time and trouble to write a report; or maybe an article on their winning sequence. It really does make our job so much easier when we can just concentrate on editing rather than having to write ourselves. It is both pleasing and somewhat surprising that we are now discovering just how many clubs there are out there which have some interest in AV. It was one of our aims when we took on the magazine to try and broaden it's appeal, to report on what the smaller clubs were doing and to support and encourage them through publicity. 'Around The Clubs' and the 'Events Diary' page in the magazine and also on the www.avnews.org.uk and www.avg.rps.org websites are there to do just that and we hope that you will continue to send us information on all your forthcoming events and maybe a magazine report and pictures afterwards. Also we will be pleased to add a link to your club's own website - all we ask is that you reciprocate with one back to ours. Maybe your club has a publicity officer - if not, then why not ask for somebody to kindly volunteer to do that job? We then will have a 'one stop' contact name, email address and telephone number for your club making communications so much easier. So what have we been up to since the last issue - well John was one of the three speakers at the Yorkshire Photographic Union's Keithley Memorial Lecture Day at Selby and we did a joint talk for the November RPS Yorkshire Day at the Media Museum in Bradford. It was nice to see everyone at the Great Northern Festival at Wilmslow and talking of Wilmslow, Jill won the Christmas Carol competition held on the 19th December and became the fourth recipiant of the the Brian Proctor 'Spring' Memorial Trophy. There are actually three of these trophies in existance - the largest is now in Jill's posession, the middle one is competed for at Brian's club, Prestwich Co-op CC and the smallest is the AV trophy at John's club in Rochdale and guess who won it this year - yes we are now both highly sprung!! Well we have run out of space now so we wish you all A Happy New Year and hope you continue to enjoy the magazine. Page 2
