The results of the Second PAVC
Salon were announced on
Sunday. (See Page 30)
Those with acceptances were
pleased to get the news first
hand. The one winner of three
medals (Ingrid Fraser) was
congratulated all round and her
winning sequences were shown.
The results of the South Africa - Ireland Club Battle were also announced
and the winning AVs shown. Congratulations to East Leinster for coming
out tops this time. (See Page 18).
The most heated discussion point was around whether one should be
allowed to use 'other people's images', sparked off by ‘Migrant Mother’,
‘Maison de Sarah’ and a South African documentary called ‘Hope’, amongst
others. The discussion was topical because a new national AV salon was
announced at the Festival with the rule that 'all images have to be your own'.
The final consensus, in summary, was that the production has to be your
own, it is your creation, and it is immaterial what goes into it. By seeing the
World-class productions with their awards made it much easier to debate
the pros and cons. (The rule has been taken out of the salon brochure to
everyone's relief.)
This Festival could not have been possible without enthusiastic support
and generosity on the part of authors of sequences from around the World.
We thank them all for that.
See www.avnews.org.uk for a full list of all the sequences shown EDs.
