AV News 193 - August 2013
He began by showing us a simple but very effective sequence about a visit to
Northern Ireland, set to St Patrick's hymn, and emphasizing how carefully
dissolved images could be set to suitable music to create a mood. He then guided
us through the making of several of his sequences, starting with an in depth look
at his prize-winning AV on the artist Tony Bramham. He talked about what
inspired him to make it, the work involved in assembling all the material needed,
and how it all came together over a period of about six months - a lot of hard
work!
A closer look at the making of 'Inferno', about an arsonist, 'Wigan Pier' and
'Voyage of Discovery', recounting his once in a lifetime trip to the Antarctic,
followed. It was fascinating to be given an insight into the thinking behind the
production of these various, and very different sequences.
In his vote of thanks to Colin Balls, Keith Leedham FRPS EFIAP FIPF said that
his idea of getting authors to step forward, and talk about why they had made
their sequences, was a most interesting one. Colin's rationale for doing this was
that he likes to get an insight into the personalities behind sequences,
reinforcing the concept that AV production is 'all about the idea', and reflects the
enthusiasm you have for that idea - something to ponder!
Many thanks to all those at the Essex AV Group, under the Chairmanship of
Dick Williams ARPS DPAGB, for organizing another very successful and enjoyable
AV event.
