It was nice to meet up with a number of
our readers at the International Festival
held in Cirencester, including those who
had travelled long distances from
Finland and Australia. We hope that you
enjoyed the event and were impressed
with the superb sound quality and
viewing your sequences on the
extremely large 16 x 9 foot screen!
Our congratulations go to the
organising team for their dedication and
hard work - if you think that it all 'just
happens' then you might like to read an insight into what goes on 'behind the
scenes' on Page 20.
Whilst it would appear that a good number of people are now making
sequences in a high resolution widescreen format, it once again raises the
question of what size should become the norm? If you only make your sequences
to compete at Festivals, then make them in widescreen - but what about the
people who take their sequences out to entertain the local Womens Institute etc
or the photographic club that has the standard 4:3 screen and projector? The
sequence is just going to appear as a band across the centre of the screen if
made in widescreen. The 1024 x 768 sequences played fine at Cirencester and
did not appear 'lost' on the big screen, as they filled the full height. Some of the
AV Groups have recently purchased Canon 1400 x 1050 projectors and their
members are encouraged to produce to that size. What are your views on this?
We are very saddened to hear the news that Lady Doreen Pollock passed
away on Tuesday 16th October. Our condolences to Sir George and family on
their sad loss. An obituary will appear in the next issue.
A number of our AV friends have not been well recently and we send our best
wishes to Maureen Albright, Kate Brown and Maggie Imhoff, but are pleased to
report that Valerie Rawlins is improving slowly. We hope that you are all soon
back to full health. On a brighter note we are sure you will join us in sending
congratulations and best wishes to Howard & Suzanne Gregory on their recent
wedding see Page 47.
You will see on Page 17 that we have now managed to arrange for our UK
subscribers to be able to pay for the magazine by Direct Debit. We hope that
people will use this method as it makes our lives a little easier! Please send the
completed DD Mandate along with the Order Form to Keith Brown, AV Group
Treasurer, as soon as possible and by the end of November at the latest,
payment will not be requested from your bank until the 1st February.
We have just heard via the grapevine that the RPS Multimedia & Narrative
assessments that were scheduled for the 24th October have
been postponed until 16th March 2013.
Well that's all for now - hope to see you at the Great Northern?
