AV News 190 - November 2012
This sounds an easy job but 10 or so sequences had one title on the entry form,
a different one on the icon and yet another one on the sequence itself. We also
had 2 sequences with the same title! I don't know how many times we checked
to make sure we had it right.
I had been experimenting with using 2 screens and I found that if I made the
projector, screen 1 and the monitor, screen 2, I could drag all the icons on to
the second screen then when I tripped a sequence from screen 2 it showed on
screen 1. This meant that the audience would not need to see the cursor at all
and it would look like things were just happening. Much slicker looking than
what we did before.
I then thought that if I made a PTE sequence that zoomed the title and
number of the next sequence on to the screen, while the judges were
deliberating about the last sequence, that would look even better. Good idea,
but this meant I would have to make 78 PTE sequences which involved typing
them all into Photoshop and as I am not good at typing or spelling this was
interesting. Although it took a long time to do this it made my job at the event
so much easier.
Now all the desktop pictures had to be made. Great! Job almost done but
some idiot, namely me, agreed to make the introductory sequence. I won't go
into details about that but when it was done Dick and I got together to proof
everything. Needless to say there were spelling mistakes and wrong
sequences being tripped but we sorted all that out. I also got the impression
from Dick (although he didn't actually say) that he wasn't all that impressed with
the intro sequence. So I then went back to improve it.
Now that Tony Troman has retired it makes Marilyn and I the longest serving
members of the committee having worked on 10 festivals and Dick and Sylvia
are only 2 behind us. That, together with the work put in beforehand by
everybody, helps the whole event run smoothly.
Dick: Following the Festival all entrants are sent an email with the results
attached. Prizes and certificates are posted to the winners that are not present
and all successful entrants that could not attend also receive a certificate,
bringing the Festival to a conclusion.
We hope this insight behind the scenes lets you know what we actually do.
