AV News 191 - February 2013
18th Great Northern Festival
Sheila Haycox ARPS DPAGB AFIAP
Day 1: The weekend started on Friday evening
30th November, to a packed audience of well over
100, with a performance by Andy Lound,
Astronomer, with his voyage of discovery of the
third planet from the Sun, a ‘Pale Blue Dot’
known as Earth. I say a performance because
that is Andy Lound, his presentation to the
audience gave images which need to be seen to
be believed as we glided over mountains, deserts,
oceans, forests, cities and ice fields with some
musical accompaniment but it was his
enthusiasm that kept us rapt with attention.
Quite an experience, what a start to the weekend,
well done Andy, a starry night to remember.
Day 2: The 1st of December, the 18th Great Northern Festival and an
audience of exactly 100! It was a buzz of activity when I walked into the hall,
equipment set up, judges ready and everyone waiting in anticipation to see
the 37 sequences entered. The event was Hosted by Howard Gregory who
introduced the judges, Keith Scott FRPS DPAGB AV-AFIAP who is Chair of the
RPS AV Group as well as being an experienced AV producer of award
winning sequences. His Yorkshire sense of humour comes across
excellently in his many comedy sequences; Brian Jeffs FRPS DPAGB has a
long experience of producing AV sequences and an impressive portfolio and
John Smith APAGB CPAGB, a person with a wicked sense of humour who has
been interested in photography since his school days, who serves on several
committees, plus he is joint Editor of the AV News. He replaced Kate Brown
DPAGB who unfortunately was unable to attend due to illness.
One item that needed to
be done before the event
of the day started; Richard
Brown FRPS presented the
Jessops Rose Bowl
