career overlapped only
slightly with my own.
I had the good fortune to
sit next to him in the
audience for the whole of
the first National AV
Championships in 1980,
where 'Elm Twilight' was
possibly his last submission
to a major festival.
His kindly and insightful
observations on the entries
were a masterclass in AV
criticism. Then there were
occasional visits to Over
Norton Park in the eighties,
where he and Jean were the
most genial company and
the memories of which I
treasure.
John Dawkins was one of
the most talented, modest
and charming men I have
ever met. His passing
severs one of the last
remaining links with the
early days of slide-tape in
the UK.
