AV News 186 - November 2011 Letters S lid e s to D ig ita l - Following on from Les Hitchcocks' article 'An AV the Old Way', Page 32 Issue 185, we have received several Letters from readers. Trevor Walters APAGB I refer to the letter in the August edition by Les Hitchcock and would comment that he is not alone in coming to terms with digital as it has taken me a while to get to grips with it. However in that time I have not given up on slides and am now planning some new slide sequences to show on my Royale. I am reminded of something the Chairman of my local club said when I was a new member "take pictures to suit yourself and if anyone else likes them it is an added bonus". I am Secretary/Programme Secretary of my local club, Ryton CC (NCPF) and we still hold an annual slide competition and have lecturers using prints both darkroom and digital; projected images slides and digital. We have a member who achieved DPAGB with darkroom prints. I would say to Les do not give up and do your own thing. John Thompson - Prestwich Co-op Camera Club After reading Les Hitchcocks' Eulogy on the passing of Slide/Tape AV Sequences I have to say that I am in exactly the same situation - at least two Sequences half finished and no incentive to encourage me to get them finished. Having watched a couple of my sequences being 'digitalised' I found that the producing of 'Digital AV' seemed a lengthy process when compared to Slide/Tape; what with scanning, re-sizing, cropping, compatible projectors and other strange (to me) technicalities that SEEM necessary to obtain an acceptable sequence. I think I should remind all and sundry that we are (or were) PHOTOGRAPHERS first and foremost and not Cyber Buffs and our objectives are (or were !! ) to get the picture right in the first place, having no need of all this technical tampering. Come on Slide workers, carry on with the good work, we may yet see the Resurrection Of REAL picture taking. Lilian Webb AIPF - Ireland Many thanks for the last issue, as usual, it is most interesting. I too, am like Les Hitchcock - struggling with the change over to digital. Miss the slides and the pulses!! W a n te d - P u rlo c k D u o fa d e Contact Andrew Bradley Page 37
