AV News 186 - November 2011
My husband, Brian and I found ourselves on a ferry to Ireland to see for
ourselves the beauty this colourful country offered after a captivating sequence
from Colin and Anne, 'Guardian of Creation'. Beamish in the North of England
and the fountains in Italian gardens used in television programmes were
immediately recognised and felt known to me, despite not having visited either
of the places, and all due to the skill and achievement of Audio Visual
enthusiasts. Beamish is now on our list of 'places to visit', along with Lindisfarne.
In the last few years, without leaving my home, I have been transported
around the world from Alaska to Antarctica; across the British Isles, peeped into
garden sheds and bird boxes and eavesdropped on the A.G.M of the Trees in
the New Forest. (Really! The things trees get up to when they think they are
alone and we have no idea. With my love of trees I found this one a truly
memorable sequence).
I send my heart-felt thanks to you all and have said many times over, "I
wonder whether the people who devote such a great deal of their time to this
hobby have any idea of the pleasure given to so many people, some, complete
strangers like me?"
Probably not, as you continue to beaver away on your latest project in all
winds and weathers. Frequently when Somerset closes in on itself beneath
leaden skies on wet days I can be found sitting at my lap-top lost in an ambience
of tranquillity marvelling at the scenes unfolding before me on the screen. The
accompanying music, well, I won't even begin to touch on that, just wonderful
and appropriately chosen.
Where would we be without them? 'An AV a day keeps the Doctor away'.
Perhaps they should be prescribed on the National Health. Now, there's a thought!

It’s all change (almost) on the Committee. I am delighted to tell you that Peter
Brown, having stepped down as Chairman, will still be giving his valuable
support as a Committee member; Graham Neville has returned to the
Committee as our new Treasurer; Bob Mercer and Judy Longthorn join us as our
new Secretary and Committee Member; and Malcolm Imhoff continues as our
Vice-Chairman and very able Competition Secretary. As your new Chairman I
look forward to your continued support in the coming season.
Sadly Maggie Imhoff has had to resign from the Committee due to her
deteriorating condition but we sincerely hope that following a course of
chemotherapy she will be much improved. We all wish you good luck Maggie
and we look forward to seeing your effervescent self very soon.
Some dates I would like to draw to your attention: on the 18th November we
are presenting a Spectacular show of the best sequences at St Philips Church,
Evington Road, Leicester, in support of Children in Need. Please do whatever
you can to support this event.
24th March 2012: in order to avoid a clash with another event, we have
moved our Kaleidoscope to this new date. Bring your friends and family to see
our show at The Civic Centre, Kingsway, Braunstone – 7.30 pm.
