What a fantastic variety of submissions we were
treated to at the RPS Multimedia and Narrative
Assessment Day in Fenton House on March 16th!
A small but devoted audience, including AV
workers,
a
Regional
Organiser
and
representatives from Council and the Advisory
Board, was treated to a wide range of AV, film and
multimedia productions from the UK and abroad.
MMN Chair John Chamberlin FRPS introduced
the panel: Ian Bateman FRPS, Keith Brown FRPS,
Graham Sergeant FRPS and myself and it was time
to dim the lights. We had all seen the submissions before arriving in Bath. This
process had been previously agreed by the Distinctions Advisory Board. With
some submissions being almost 15 minutes in duration, this was felt to be the
fairest way of assessing the work. Panel members do not have contact or
discuss submissions before the Assessment Day. Once the day was under
way everything was played in full in front of the audience with every member
of the panel speaking about each submission in most cases.
LRPS: first we saw two, short traditional AVs; a sombre piece covering the
repatriation of bodies from Afghanistan with images centred on Wootten
Bassett and RAF Lyneham (dur: 4-25) and a lively piece about a Bristol
shopping centre (6-13). Next was a travelogue about a group of chaps climbing
lots
