CONNECTING
A la n B o o th m a n
A Montage of Musicians and their Music. I enjoy my photography most when
experiencing live music. I enjoy AV creation most when incorporating a
complex sound track. So the idea of combining a sound montage, a seamless
music track of individual instrumental and vocal clips and phrases, with
images I have taken of musicians in action, was a natural AV choice for me.
The "connecting" theme refers to the inspiration that a solo musician
experiences when connecting with their audience. The microphone is often
the object which enables this connection and the performer can be seen to
channel their intensity accordingly.
The opening and closing
sequences were taken
around a grab piano scene
in an Illinois Shopping
Mall. This (demonstrator)
musician gave a versatile
performance worthy of any
stage.
Photography in small jazz and blues clubs can be somewhat risky, particularly
the possibility of a mugging for expensive camera equipment when leaving
the clubs after midnight. Consequently, small pocket cameras are very
important to me in Memphis, Nashville and St Louis.
