AV News 179 - February 2010 Brian presenting Ian with the Trophy Although the sequence was adjudged to be the winner, Brian made a few suggestions to improve the presentation, some of which will be considered before it represents Kempston Camera Club in next years’ Felicity Bickley Trophy. A local interclub competition, featuring clubs from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire in memory of Felicity Bickley, who was an active member in RAVE (Rushden Audio Visual Enterprise). IPF 27th National Championships L ilia n W e b b AIPF We were delighted that Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB returned to Dublin and this time as judge. In March 2004 he gave the first digital audio visual lecture in Ireland. I had the privilege of hosting both him and Richard Brown, an entrant. Break times revealed that the weather was glorious outside! The venue for this, the 27th Irish Photographic Federation National AV Championships and 2nd International Championships, held on the 19th & 20th October, was the Irish Cultural Centre. Those partaking of the dinner on the Saturday night, 28 in total, were later joined by others, for a traditional music session. The competition was judged on the Saturday though all was not revealed until the end of the championships on Sunday afternoon. As well as the judging of distinctions in audio visual, we were treated to seeing Ian's sequences on Sunday. As I had recently been in Oxford, I loved the Oxford Monopoly sequence. He also showed "The Final Cut", "The Gathering", "The Psychic", "Chariots of Fire", "Rhondda Grey" and "Morning Has Broken" to name a few. Though neither Frank Malthouse nor I (from the organising committee) had sequences, we had a cameo role in "A Cloudy Day At Glendalough" taken in 2004! During a meal on the Friday night, we had been discussing that there was to be no coughing at Ian when your sequence came on! I, as MC, made an announcement to that effect on Saturday morning and at the first break learnt that Jack Thompson from Bangor, had a bad cough and had to go out to get sweets from his car! So, I had some explaining as the second session started! The winners were Marie McGuinness with "The Miracle Of A Seed", in the Novice Section, Edwin Bailey with "Coole Legend" in the Intermediate Section and Brendan O'Sullivan LIPF with "Dreamtime Connections" in the Advanced. By the time the awards were announced, Brendan was now AIPF! He also won the best soundtrack trophy, the best overall sequence and the Audience Vote! Bride Maughan LIPF won The George & Doreen Pollock Medal, so generously presented by The Royal Photographic Society Audio Visual Group and silver tankard for the Best First Time Entrant with "Marble Halls". Pat Heavin AIPF won Best Photography Sheild for "Hello Judy". Page 39
