Re National AV Championships

Firstly I would like to thank the AV News editors for getting the quick response
to my letter in the previous issue, however, the reply from Peter Brown raises
some issues with which I am not at all happy. I appreciate that this particular
event is now well and truly over however the issues which concern me from
Peter's reply could apply to future events and are as follows.
I am not a member of a federation club but did not note any rule stating that
preference would be given to federation club members. Had I known of this
unwritten rule I probably would not have bothered to enter. I thought the event
was The National AV Championship and did not realize it was biased towards
club members rather than individuals. Peter states that the prime object is to
keep the standard as high as possible; this is after all the National
Championships and then goes on to indicate that preference was given to
federation club members and entrants who would attend. I did indicate on my
entry that I was unable to attend this years Championship, although I have
entered and attended quite a number of the Nationals and Internationals in the
past (as far back as being awarded the 1980 NAVC silver medal) and again I did
not realize that preference would be given to entrants who would be attending
the event.
I am sure that most entrants, myself included, at the very least like to have
their entries displayed at an event. I wish to emphasize that it's the taking part
that brings the joy, winning an award is a bonus. So again I feel as wider entrant
acceptance as possible should apply, hence my remark re entrants with double
entries being accepted at the expense of rejected entrants.
