L&CPU AV Competition

Shelia - Today, Saturday 19th February, I went to the
annual L&CPU AV Competition at Croston, not far from
Chorley, Lancashire. I've been only once before and
that was about 5 years ago. For the first time in 5 years
I also had an entry. It turned out to be a great day and,
as an added bonus, I gained a 'Commended' for my
own sequence.
Julia - By the morning of 19
February, I was beginning to
wonder what I’d done. My first 'proper' AV entered
into the L&CPU annual competition? To say I was
nervous was something of an understatement! Not
knowing what to expect, I was very quickly put at
ease by the warm and friendly welcome from fellow
competitors and officials alike. People were drinking
tea and chatting like old friends, with the President
taking the time to speak to everyone.
Then the competition started and I was transported. From humour to
history, Madagascar to the Moon, this was like a magical journey.
Shelia - The judge for the day was Jack Byatt from Romiley, a well-known and
well-respected figure in AV circles. Altogether, there were 18 sequences
entered. Two sequences were shown and then Jack commented on each of
them in turn, offering both constructive criticism and advice. The sequences
ranged from those from the newest AV recruit to those of the seasoned
workers with international awards to their credit. We saw sequences that were
serious, instructive, emotive or humorous; they were short and sweet or long
and interesting but all had a lot to offer the viewer.
Julia - The skill and imagination of each entrant was amazing, with each of
