AV News 197 - August 2014 Frank had had a very serious stroke about ten years before, but this did not stop him from painting, he forced himself to hold the brush and paint one brush stroke at a time - hence the title of this article and the AV. Frank did not paint the beautiful things in life - he preferred to paint about atrocities and tragedy, much to the consternation of his children and his wife Mary. Mary insisted that the atrocity paintings were mounted on the wall behind where she sat, so that she would not have to look at them all the time! Frank was a tank commander and went through the siege of Tobruk in the Second World War. He ended up a prisoner of war in Germany and saw much tragedy and atrocity during that time. These are all captured in his paintings and perhaps explains his need to paint such images. I showed Frank and Mary the completed AV in their home and they were fascinated.
