We are delighted that our club entry
'One Day Like This' has won the
Bridgend 5 to 8 competition. We
entered for the first time this year, and
sent in some individual entries as well
as the joint club one. The winning
sequence was one that was actually
produced for our Club's Summer
Festival AV Show in a previous year.
Wantage runs the festival each year to
showcase local talent, and the
Camera Club's AV Group show a
variety of sequences as part of the event.
As well as individual ones, we also produce a 'club' sequence using some of
the images shown at the club that year. The main desire is to include work from
as many members as possible, so we
start with a huge amount of disparate
images that need to be fitted together
into a coherent sequence.
We chose Elbow's 'One Day Like
This' as the soundtrack, and decided
to use mainly slow 'from centre'
dissolves, with some fast transitions to
fit with the short violin themes that
punctuate the song. A different
technique was used each time though,
including some mini images of a club
trip to Henley overlaid in time to the violin. We also chose to have a very slow
zoom effect on each image to enhance
the flow of the sequence.
When this was first shown at the club,
we were pleased to have Igor Kokarev
in the audience as he was visiting the
UK at the time. He was very taken with
the sequence and requested a copy for
the WnSoft archives.
The most challenging thing to do
when preparing the sequence for entry
for the Bridgend 5 to 8 was to
acknowledge the photographers! The
rules state that all photography has to be credited at the end of the sequence, and
with most of the club participating there were lots of names to squeeze in - in the
end we settled for a swift scrolling list that zipped up the screen on the final
image! The sequence can be seen via the Bridgend Camera Club website
