AV News 180 - May 2010 The courthouse and gaol images were taken in Stafford, as was the solicitor's office, the sign added later in Photoshop. We felt we needed a large stately building for the government committee to meet, to show their power and authority, a day out with my wife to Attingham Park solved that problem. When we started to construct the sequence in PicturesToExe it became obvious that we could not depict the early 20th century from original photos. Phil gathered a number of archive pictures, from various sources, which helped a lot. We visited our local archive library where we were shown, and kindly allowed to photograph, press pictures of both the trial and the family. Phil and I have never been happy with our sequences when they constantly change from b/w to colour and this one was no different. I suggested that the b/w be hand tinted which was a tough ask for us poor Photoshop workers, however Phil came up with some very good results. The images still seemed to upset the flow so I had a great idea of taking some of the colour out of the colour images to make them similar to the tinted b/w. This was my job, it took me days to do them all but it seemed to work. However when it was shown alongside sequences where the images were normal it looked terrible and so the idea was rejected and we stayed with tinted and colour. We visited a relative of Phil's and she recorded our narration, Phil then edited it using Cool Edit. I meanwhile had been listening to lots of music, we had already agreed that violin music would be the order of the day. The next time we met I took 3 Cd's with me, which we listened to and felt that one of them would be good for the ending. This was Bruch's violin concerto. We spent the day working on the soundtrack.
