It's amazing what can be produced in one minute. The winner was Pat Geary with a brilliant sequence of a firework display. On 9 January eleven members and the judge, braved the arctic elements for the Group's Annual Competition. There were 29 entries for four trophies and judge Richard Brown FRPS EFIAP FIPF had a hard task in selecting the winners. Richard commented on each entry with remarks which were fair and constructive, as well as giving his reasons for choosing those to receive commendations or trophies. Results were : The Camp Trophy - First - 'Another Place' by Graham Neville who also took Second place with 'Carnevale'. Comendations went to Peter Lucas & Peggy Franks for 'Harvest Festival' and 'On the Beach' and to Pat Geary for 'Remember, Remember'. The Ken Abbot Memorial Trophy - First - 'Salford Quays' by Brian Jeffs. Second - 'I will try to explain' by Joan Horne. The Elston Trophy - First - 'Lincoln Cathedral' by Peggy Franks. Despite the winter weather and the chill in the room, it was an enjoyable day and afterwards members and Judge repaired to a local hostelry for its welcoming warmth and a meal. On January 30th the Group hosted the MCPF 'Midphot AV Competition', where member Malcolm Imhoff received a commendation for his sequence entitled "Land of the Thunder Dragon". (See Page 6 for results) In February members joined in a Seven a Side Sequence battle with Leeds AV Group, with Howard Bagshaw as Judge in Leicester and Howard Gregory and Suzanne Walker judging in Leeds. There were some very entertaining and imaginative sequences and it was interesting to see how the different judges commented and marked them. However both sets of judges felt that the Leeds' entries had the edge and they came out the winners with 193.5 marks to East Midlands 147. Page 31
