More Video Questions
M e la n ie C h a lk - Folkestone CC
Have you, or any readers had experience of video content in AV? I have had a
question from another club (below). They contacted us, as we had run the
recent county competition and one of our entries contained video content. It
may be something that has to be addressed, but it may be something that only
the judges can decide when making their judgement. I would be interested to
hear from you, or any one else who has thoughts on this matter.
From Graham Usher, Sevenoakes CC
I turn to you, as you at Folkestone have experience of hosting AV
Competitions for the KCPA. We at Sevenoaks have just had our first AV
competition and although a most enjoyable fun evening, the only rule we
imposed was that they should be no more than 5 minutes, which most felt was
a good length. However, some issues arose from the evening and if we are to
continue in the future with AV's these need to be addressed.
Three of the 15 AV's included video clips, which some members were
unhappy about and some included either credits to the author, or else images
which clearly identified the author. These caused much comment and if we are
to proceed with further competitions, we will need to establish some clear rules.
The winner was decided on a show of hands, but we might well want to have
an independent judge at some stage in the future.
With many cameras now shooting video, this might well be a future trend. We
are currently discussing this within the Club, with a view to limiting video
content to 20%. I gather the current KCPA rules do not refer to video content
and I wondered if this issue has been considered, otherwise we could finish up
with a video competition.
Although we could work to our own rules, we feel that we would like to
consider any rules laid down by the KCPA or PAGB and would welcome any
guidance.
