AV News 182 - November 2010
As usual a great deal of research material is never used in a sequence, but I
was able to use Kath's actual words wherever possible in my first-person
commentary. I wanted to use as much of her singing as I could fit into the
sequence, so needed some appropriate images to use whilst she sang.
Stained glass windows seemed
right for passages from 'The
Messiah' and 'St Matthew
Passion', but how could I
portray her diagnosis and
death??
I chose a dramatic sky shot,
I had actually photographed
the day I lost my hair whilst
undergoing chemotherapy.
That felt right.
I needed to use more music
images too and was lucky to
find a very old piano in the old
school house in Hope,
Derbyshire, when I went on an
AV course there last year.
Thanks to Keith Brown for that
venue. He helped me with the
stained glass windows too.
For her last performance I
chose to use the imagery of a
swan song, using a pair of
swans with necks entwined,
fading to a single swan shot.
