AV News 189 - August 2012
One brave move by the organisers is to publish the marks from each of the
judges, see http://www.trophee.oi-paris.com/repartitionplaces2012.html
which clearly shows the huge variation in marks from the 30 independent
judges. The winning sequence, for example was judged to be the best
sequence by 5 panel members, but not in the top 15 by 7 of the judges. It
clearly shows that we all have very different views of what constitutes a
'winning' sequence.
Of course, winning wasn't the important thing (would I have said that if I'd
done better?) and what the event does so well is to bring together AV workers
from around France, Belgium and the UK, to see and to talk about Audio
Visual sequences. There is no fee to attend and excellent meals are
organised in a local restaurant.
And it was in these
breaks particularly, over
a glass of wine or a cup
of coffee that we talked
and learned so much
about other people's
views of AV.
The organisers are to
be congratulated on
running an excellent and
different event.
Do think about entering next year, particularly if you can attend to see the
work and get comments about your sequence. And, as I said earlier, it's a
great excuse to see Paris in the Spring.
