Great Northern AV Weekend 2012
The eighteenth (crikey, have we really done than many?) Great Northern will
be held on Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December 2012 at the
usual venue - Wilmslow Guild Adult Education Centre, Wilmslow, just south
of Manchester. Wilmslow has excellent road, rail and air connections and
several convenient hotels.
Friday 30th November, at 7.30pm - Andy Lound - 'Pale Blue Dot'
Andy Lound is a professional lecturer and
broadcaster. He does not so much give a lecture
as enact a performance. Many of you will
remember his spectacular 'Titanic' presentation at
the 2006 Great Northern. He has visited the Guild
since, to give an equally spectacular lecture on the
Hubble Space Telescope. I'm sure this year he will
be equally unmissable.
The 'Pale Blue Dot' in question is planet earth. In
this beautiful presentation the earth is visited as if
for the first time by some explorers from a different
world. The images have to be seen to be believed
as we glide over mountains, deserts, oceans, forests, cities and ice fields.
Accompanied by music Andrew takes us on a voyage of discovery - of the
third planet from the sun - a pale blue dot known as earth.
This lecture is expected to be popular with the general public, so we advise
early booking - particularly if travelling from a distance.
Saturday 1st December, at 10.00am - 'Great Northern Festival'
A national audio-visual competition open to anybody resident in the British
Isles and to overseas members of British AV Groups.
This year's judges will be:Keith Scott FRPS
