AV News 194 - November 2013
Editorial

By the time you are reading this the
new season will be well under way with
a number of AV events taking place
around the country.
The first of these, our National AV
Championships, took place at Sutton
Bonnington near Leicester from the
13th - 15th September. Results and
pictures can be found on Page 28.
Two members of the L&CPU
committee were busy canvassing the
views of those present at the Nationals
as to what format the Great Northern Festival should take in 2014. The views
were many and varied and different options are being considered at this time
so that this enjoyable event can continue into the future. If you have any views
then please let us know.
We hope to see you at this year's Great Northern taking place at Wilmslow
from 29th November to 1st December. The closing date for your entries is the
9th November and booking forms and further information can be downloaded
at www.wilmslowguildav.org.uk and www.avnews.org.uk
The big excitement at the moment is the 'long awaited' beta release of PTE
8.0. Having both been involved in the Alpha testing for some time, Jill has been
persuaded to write an article on the many new and useful features that have
been incorporated into this latest version, see Page 47. We demonstrated
these at a recent North Wales & Wirral AV Group workshop at Capel Curig and
all present were very impressed and eagar to try out the new features for
themselves. Making a short sequence on the day to demonstrate voiceovers,
even we were surprised at how quick and easy it now is to mix all the audio
directly in PTE. The whole sequence, including recording the voiceover was
made in less than an hour.
We thank you for all the many kind letters and compliments that we received
following the publication of the last issue. You had asked us to provide more
'technical' content and we are once again indebted to Howard Bagshaw for
providing us with the second of his 'Objects and Animation' articles on Page 4,
plus another on his Sony digital recorder on Page 12. Also the 'audio guru',
Howard Gregory, kindly offered to provide us with some Q&A pages and these
commence on Page 14. We hope that these authors and others will continue
to provide us with content for future issues. It really does make editing the
magazine easier when we don't have to write a great deal of it ourselves!
A reminder that Subscriptions are now due for 2014, please return your
