AV News 194 - November 2013 Around The Clubs The Northern AV Group Geoffrey Darling Our first meeting of the year was the wonderful mix of Attendees Sequences followed by our Guest Speakers. Our Guests were Dick Williams ARPS DPAGB and Dave Wilcox, more of the their work later. A good attendance as ever and we were fortunate with a break in the weather except for 2 people whose road was snowbound! The 'home' sequences were, as ever, most interesting and informative starting with Edwin Stanger's 'Kaleidoscope' as he used PTE with its various effects to good use. David Rodway's 'Castle Eden Walkway’ illustrated how an old mineral railway line from the Durham Coalfield has been converted into a nature walk. Peter Appleton with his 'Ammonites' sequence covered these flat coiled shells that are now fossils. Anne Swearman produced a sequence, ‘Tynemouth Lifeboat’, highlighting the work of the RNLI that has been donated to the Station for the public to see. 'Wieliczka' was Jim McCormick's show on the salt mines, where the carvings are truly remarkable, in Poland where he was on holiday. Finally Chris Bate showed us 'Peat For The Fires' where in the Hebrides peat is still cut for fuel. As ever many useful tips, guidance on improving sequences came from our Guests and other members of the Group. This all helps AV Workers ranging from potential starters to those who are very experienced build sequences and use a wide range of subjects of their personal choice. Our Guests then gave us a stunning set of sequences on a vast range of subjects that were both interesting and informative. Having braved the weather to travel from Essex we had a treat. How they used PTE and built soundtracks into their work was very informative. One item in particular was the use of an additional image on screen where the introduction was so subtle and smooth which all enhanced what were very good sequences prior to that. Their subjects were very wide ranging covering South Georgia (Pictures Emailed from there and the sequence made in the UK - a wee bit different), Namibia, London in all its glory then with a complete negative all the street signs, Snow, Poetry, Naked Bike Riders (duly censored), Motor bike riders at a famous London Cafe that had reopened, Oranges and Lemons with all the churches photographed with the soundtrack of choir music composed for the event. It does inspire people who come to look at what they do, informative as you always learn new things and enjoyable. I will use the famous title from Wallace and Gromit it was 'A Grand Day Out'. We hope to see you all again on 29th March 2014 when our guest spea
