Stunning is certainly one word to sum up
Archerfield Links.
World Class facilities await you at what is one venue to
watch and a firm favourite here a Golfer Mag. From the
moment you wind your way through to tree lined drive
past Archerfield House, a former ruin now renovated
to a grand standard which plays host to weddings
and exclusive events, pass the Spa and lodges onto the
clubhouse and golf courses, everything is presented to
the highest standard. We turned right into the golf area
but a little further past is more accommodation and the
Marine Villa, home to Gary Player and his world famous
“braai” held during the 2013 Open Championship hosted
by next door Muirfield.
Archerfield itself is named after the archers of King
Edward’s army who set-up camp on the site during an

a haven for those lucky enough to stay or visit.
In order to truly appreciate the local golfers point of
view, I, a humble Scottish club golfer, would be given
the opportunity to play there. My own excitement was
palpable as I drove up to the five star clubhouse and
caught sight of the challenge I was about to face.
I could not believe my eyes. The set-up looked absolutely
stunning even on a cool, overcast Scottish summers day.
Nestled between Gullane and North Berwick on East
Lothian’s golf coast it keeps good company near this
year’s Open championship course, Muirfield, its sister
course, Dirleton Links next door and the Renaissance
Club just over the road. The fine courses of Gullane and
North Berwick of course within spitting distance – Fidra
links has a lot to live up too.
The welcome was first class and the surroundings
palatial. Upon arrival you are greeted by the concierge,
who tags your clubs, and introduces you to the facilities.
They know your name, you are expected and welcomed.
