Eleanor Howlin

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Eleanor Howlin and I am from Kilmore in the sunny south east of County Wexford. Living here gives me lots of opportunity to stroll on the beautiful beaches with my dog Molly and little girl June, who’s 2 years old. I have many years’ experience in business administration both in the private and public sector. I was delighted to recently get the position as school secretary at Bunclody Vocational College. I knew that the position would be interesting and varied.

Is the job what you expected?

The position of school secretary is somewhat what I expected it to be. There is a lot of time spent dealing with people from students to parents and not forgetting the teachers as well. This makes the position very interesting and you just never know what could happen from one minute to the next.

What is a typical work day like for you?

I come into work before school starts to get ready for the day. The mornings usually consist of dealing with student attendance, taking phone calls, sorting post, delivering messages etc. I also look after the bills! Using accounting software to process invoices and liaise with the WWETB's Finance Department. Other duties include HR matters such as staff absences, salary claim forms etc.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love being around lots of people. I am a people person and very much enjoy working with and dealing with people on a daily basis.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I like to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy eating out and getting a break away from home now and again. I have a lovely dog called Molly who likes to go for walks to the beach or around the block so when I get the chance I like to bring her out and about for some fresh air.
