Fernando Alonso has been ruled
out of the Australian Grand Prix
because of the potential risk of
suffering another concussion so
soon after his testing shunt at
Barcelona last month.
The Spaniard will be
replaced by reserve driver
Kevin Magnussen, who gained
experience of the 2015
McLaren during the final
pre-season test.
A McLaren team statement
said: “Fernando’s doctors have
recommended to him that,
following the concussion, for
the time being he should seek
to limit as far as is possible any
environmental risk factors that
could potentially result in
suffering another concussion so
soon after his previous one, so
as to minimise the chances of
second impact syndrome.”
It is hoped that he will return
for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

FIA in safety drive with high-speed cameras
Formula 1 chiefs are pushing through
new rules that will force cars to be

2016 to help with crash investigation.
The speculation surrounding the
cause of Fernando Alonso’s Barcelona
testing accident last week was fuelled
by the lack of clear video footage.
AUTOSPORT revealed that only
moving images of the crash were taken

from CCTV, but the footage is not very
clear. Such uncertainty about the
cause of crashes could be reduced if
the rule is approved by the FIA World
Motor Sport Council next month.
