Inverter Assembly
˾ Includes an inverter that converts direct current to alternating
current for motor control, resulting in higher output and
higher torque; the boost converter raises voltage of direct
current from battery, increasing system operating voltage to
maximum voltage of DC 500/DC 650V; DC/DC converter
converts battery’s DC 201.6V to the DC12V current used by
ancillary systems
Regenerative Braking System
˾ Allows electric motor to operate as a generator during
deceleration or braking, capturing kinetic energy normally lost
through brakes as heat and converting it to useable electricity
to recharge the HV battery
Planetary Gear Set
˾ Power Split Device seamlessly manages the interaction,
allocation and transmission of power between gasoline
engine, Motor Generator (MG1) and Drive Motor (MG2)
Drive Mode Selection
˾ Four mode settings (Normal, EV, ECO, Sport) on the center
console enable drivers to select the mode desired according
to vehicle performance and driving conditions
— Normal mode provides linear throttle response in
conjunction with progressive power
— EV mode runs purely on electrical power (under certain
circumstances) with an emphasis on quietness while
reducing emissions
— Eco mode emphasizes fuel economy by adjusting air
conditioning and drive power for optimal efficiency
— Sport mode emphasizes responsive acceleration and
Electric Power Steering (EPS) performance
˾ In Normal and ECO modes, instrument panel features a blue
background and displays the hybrid meter; when in Sport
mode the instrument panel background changes to red and
the hybrid meter is replaced with the tachometer
ECO Driving Indicator Zone Display
˾ Located on the instrument panel, keeps the driver informed
of whether the accelerator pedal is being operated in an
environmentally sensitive and efficient manner (Note: the
ECO driving indicator zone display and the Eco Mode
switch are two different functions and are not associated
with each other.)
Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence
˾ Link-less system using accelerator pedal position and throttle
position sensors; Lexus Hybrid Drive Electronic Control Unit
(ECU) calculates optimal throttle valve opening appropriate
to the driving conditions and uses a throttle control motor to
control the opening
