Automotive Business Review September | Page 46

The Perfect Partnership Andrew Grant grew up in the Malelane area, a fact that stood him in good stead when he decided to start Andy’s Auto Electrical in September 2006. Not that the Malelane folk are parochial, but they do like to support local businesses. A ndrew, an auto electrical technician by profession, but also a dab hand at mechanical repairs, had been plying his trade in Hout Bay in the Western Cape, keeping the cars and boats of the picturesque and well known tourist mecca in pristine condition, but the siren call of Malelane was too strong, and being homesick he decided to go back to his roots, together with his life partner Sharon Hill, who with the move became his business partner. ➲ The reception area leaves one in no doubt that you are visiting an e-CAR workshop This perfect partnership became even more perfect when Andy’s Auto Electrical joined the growing e-CAR workshop network in May 2013. With this master stroke, Andrew has now added e-CAR’s national brand to his local reputation, and the added benefits of procurement support from the DieselElectric organisation and diagnostic equipment and technical training from Bosch. Within days of setting up shop in Malelane the word got out that “Andy’s back”, and very soon his workshop was full of people clamouring for professional vehicle repairs. His clientele grew, from Malelane to Nelspruit and beyond, and from Skukuza to deep into the Kruger National Park. Andrew particularly loves the technical training because this keeps him up to date with the ever increasing technological demands that the modern motor vehicle places on technicians. The cherry on the cake was the high volume of traffic passing through Malelane, on the N4 to Mozambique. And despite the business not being on the main road, word of mouth does the trick for the business. Andrew and Sharon are the perfect partners, as he looks after the sales and technical matters, and she looks after the financial side. With this support, Andy’s Auto Electrical has become the go to workshop in Malelane, because it can service and repair all makes of cars, trucks, bikes, and as Andrew says, ➲ Whether it’s buses, cars or trucks, Andy’s Auto Electrical has you covered “anything that moves”.
