Autistic Spectrum Digest (Autism) Issue 6, April 2014 | Page 2

Spring may have sprung in Europe but it has been unprecedented cold weather in Eastern Canada. Spring has sprung here in the UK and I’m overjoyed to present our 6th edition of ASDigest. I know that Shan and I are rather amazed at how quickly time has flown by and we have been publishing our magazine for six months. I am particularly pleased to have two separate articles in this edition by a mother and son: Sylvia and Alex Lowery. When we began talking about this magazine, both Roberta and I wanted to provide a resource for people who were living with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and a relatable, enjoyable read. This month is April… Autism Awareness Month but on this welcome page, you will find little mention of it. Why aren’t we focusing on April 2nd and Awareness month? Well we prefer to see each month as another part of our journey into inspirational stories from those on or affected by the spectrum. And while we don’t plan on having a major theme, we often end up with one. This month’s focus is on education. I can’t believe how much momentum we have gathered in six short months, and quality writers like Jo Worgan, Melissa Morgenlander, and Josephine Bailey, all mothers who have autistic children. Also the voices on the spectrum – this edition we have Maria Series, Alex Lowery and Ryan Hendry who have been kind enough to share their writing and experiences of ASDs. Awareness is a full time job for us here at ASDigest. Over the next few months as we continue to evolve and grow the magazine, we look forward to serving the autism community. Thanks for sharing the ride, It’s been a reflective month here for us, and full of change, but it is only through evolution that we get a better understanding of what we can become! Enjoy the read,
