Doctors concerned over U.S. Preventive
Services Task Force recommendation
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
(USPSTF) β an independent, governmentbacked panel of doctors β said in a statement
that they found no sufficient evidence to
support the universal screening of children
aged three years and under for autism.
Urban Youth Collaborative interns serve
at summer camp for youths with autism
This statement by the USPSTF raised concerns
as numerous doctors worry it could have a
negative impact on their already strained
efforts to push for early intervention for
children on the autism spectrum.
Fitchburg, Mass. β Interns from a Department
of Developmental Services-funded summer
internship program called the Urban Youth
Collaborative served at the TREK-Synergy
Summer Camp for youths with autism.
The camp, an initiative of LUK, Inc. under its
Teaching Reaching and Experiencing with Kid
(TREK) program, aims for its participants to
reach their full potential through activities that
help maximize their growth and learning,
called adventure based and experiential
learning, also known as the AB/EL.
