Love, a four letter word which looks a lot
more docile written in black type on a blank
white page!
In this issue we decided to look at dating
and love on the Spectrum, just because of
the interest we had in the topic matter. It
seems that dating disasters, overcoming
shyness and looking for the ideal partner is
a mine field be the individual on the
spectrum or not.
So was born this issue of ASDigest. I do
believe in love, it’s out there
somewhere for all of us, even old cynics
like me.
This brings me back to the time of year,
with Valentines having just past, and not a
single card arrived at ASD tower, I was
transported back to the teenager sitting in
my bedroom at home, listening to my
friends talk and talk about their latest crush;
who they had presented with their hand
made cards, and who they had received
cards from doused in cheap aftershave
signed with a question mark. I was never
the recipient of any such card, and to be fair
I was never bothered about it.
This month we have candid and open
hearted articles from Paddy Jo Moran,
Beth Parker, and Haarvey Advaark, and I
hope that we can all glean something
from their experiences with dating, love
and finding that someone special on the
spectrum! It’s definitely harder than
some people make it look !
This edition does carry a disclaimer
– personal stories and mild sexual
content.
When the postman came and went without
even leaving me a bill this valentines day I
found myself to be still as apathetic as I was
twenty years ago sitting in my bedroom
looking for an excuse to join in a
conversation about boys I liked.
Shãn
I wondered if that was one trait I’d carried
through out my life that was solely my
Asperger’s doing the thinking for me!
