Tell us a little bit about your support group.

I help facilitate a discussion group for adults who are on the autism spectrum and who live in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The group meets monthly for one hour at the library in Squirrel Hill on the second Sunday of every month from 3:30-4:30 pm. It's a place for those wanting to have friendly and supportive conversations with other autistic adults. It is not an official therapy/support group, instead we have conversations about prearranged topics, and sometimes host outside speakers who provide information that is useful to people on the spectrum. Many times members are invited to continue the conversation at a nearby restaurant. It's a fun time!

How did you become involved?

I learned about this discussion group, and the Autism Connection, by way of another one of the agency's great activities - the sensory friendly holiday events. That was about three years ago now that I've been involved with the group.

If someone is interested in attending, how do they go about that?

This group is for adults who have an autism spectrum diagnosis. If you are interested in joining the group, you can make a Meetup.com profile and request to join the group, "Autism Discussion Group and Social Meetup." Other questions can also come my way by email: [email protected].

Thank you for all that you do, Lance!
