We owe a great deal of thanks to Elaine Davis, volunteer organizer of "Treating OCD in the Autism Community" spring conference held with us on April 27th. Elaine, Dr. Bob Hudak (WPIC) and the OCD International Western PA Chapter gathered the best professionals working with this unique population around the US, and brought them to Pittsburgh to enlighten about 240 professionals, caregivers and autistic adults about the title topic. Our staff and everyone in attendance learned key concepts in differentiating OCD from autistic tendencies. We are still thinking about how this impacts specific people we know, and how that may influence their care. We collected business cards and referral information from many in attendance since we felt the information was so high quality; we wanted some additional referral destinations for people who contact us for related help.
All in all it was an amazing learning opportunity. We felt grateful for a very positive planning process, new information, and a great quality partner for everyone related to the Autism Connection of PA.
