Balancing Social Media with
real life interaction!
alance is a word that is thrown around quite freely in
the health and fitness industry. What does it really
mean to you?
Is it about diet, and balancing your macros! Is it how
many weight sessions and cardio sessions you perform
in a single week? The most common term for most is “a
balanced diet”. But what about a balanced life? Is that ever
considered?
Is it useful to promote your business and sell product or
services? I don’t think so. People use facebook as a “look
at me” platform, not a shopping cart. They don’t go on to
buy, they go on to sell....themselves!
Despite Facebook trying to monetize their fan pages by
offering links to “boost” posts to a larger audience it still
does not work. You are essentially trying to sell to those
that are also trying to sell! Not buy.
For most fitness folk exercise does tend to take over
their lives. Call it what you will, an obsession, a passion a
lifestyle...whatever. But if its not “balanced” it can lead to
major mental burn out.
However, the creators of Facebook understand the human
mind extremely well. Especially those within the health and
fitness industry. They understand the constant need to be
accepted and “liked”.
With the emergence of anti-social media platforms like
facebook creating pseudo-personalities that distance
themselves from real social interaction. Many choose
Proxy-communication through a computer over verbal
communication! Where’s the real “social balance” in this
equation?
The most simple equation to be liked is do something
worthy of “liking”.
What I am are trying to express is “balance” refers to ALL
aspects of life. Not just exercise, or how much protein/
carbs/fats you eat. Balanced life is what we should all be
aiming for across all avenues and aspects. Not merely
counting calories or talking macros.
Life itself should encompass everything, not just one or
two elements. If your life is made from only two
elements it’s hardly balanced by any term and rather
one-dimensional!
I certainly feel the balance of power in the world of
communication has moved towards the safety net of social
media. There is no real social interaction. Its virtual
reality with the word virtual balanced heavily on keyboard
personalities.
Human beings are intrinsically made to have social
interaction. I am talking face to face, not facebook to
facebook! Social media does nothing for self confidence,
in fact it diminishes the ability to communicate on a real
human level.
It creates armchair critics that always have something to
say about everything despite their limited scope of
knowledge on any subject matter. Strangely enough the
biggest critics appear to have racked up the biggest list of
failures!
Facebook even offers a service where you have to pay for
people to “like you”! That’s a little like walking through a
shopping mall and going up to a complete stranger and
offering them $5 bucks if they will say they like you!
Balancing real life with social media is vital if you want
to develop self confidence and real communication skills
needed in life. If you spend too much time focusing on the
virtual social media world you may actually find that real
life experiences pass you by.
Forget how many people like you, dislike you, or hate you.
Its not real...its facebook!
Ignore the weak people that hide behind a keyboard
throwing in their two cents worth just to create a thread of
nonsense to draw attention to themselves. This is a sign of
severe Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Balance your life for all elements. Exercise, diet and
communication skills. By no means am I discounting the
use of Social Media platforms but its important to “Keep it
real”.
Now make sure you jump on my Facebook page and “Like”
me..... But only if you “Really” like it! All jokes aside, lets
keep things real and sociable.
Yours in health and fitness
Being socially inadequate is common place these days, and
the culprit is the over use of social media platforms.
Platforms that revolve around self worship tend to distance
us from expressing empathy for others around us.
It creates virtual one dimensional personalities that get
cau ght up on how many “likes” they have or don’t have!
What about the haters? What are haters in the first place,
people that don’t like you or those that have a different
opinion? Or are they a figment of the social media
madness that’s turning us all a little paranoid and fragile in
the process?
Keeping it real is a great term. Social media is not real, it
does not reflect reality in any sense of the word. Is it
useful? Most certainly. If you need to locate a long lost
friend from school its fantastic. But the only reason you
would contact them would be to get their phone number
and arrange a real meeting...in person!
