A ( very ) grim fairytale
‘ If you do not exist , you can do no harm .’
Dr Pam Rachootin GP in Adelaide , SA .
ONCE upon a time , millions of years in the future , on a planet lightyears away , there lived a small colony of breeding doctors .
They were the descendants of those devoted professionals who had escaped Earth during the New Reign of Terror perpetrated by regulators who had gained control of the medical profession .

These escapees had made their new home on a barren celestial body they named planet Dearth , where they passed down stories from generation to generation about how a regulatory epidemic had wreaked havoc on highly trained medicos who were devoting their lives to caring for the sick , injured and disabled .
The work these health providers performed was never deemed good

All this , delivered straight to your inbox . enough . In its heyday of untrammelled power , the leaders of Anti- Health Professionals ’ Reflection Agency ( AHPRA ) believed their mission was to protect the public from dangerous practitioners .
According to their reasoning , there was only one way to completely achieve this objective : accelerate the extinction of the target group .
‘ If you do not exist , you can do no harm ’ came to replace the traditional injunction to ‘ do no harm ’.
The reflection agency never seemed to acknowledge the benefits to society of any medical care that did not formally meet its demands for digital form filling in accordance with its best ( bureaucratic ) practice standards and code of ( red-tape ) conduct .
It disregarded the dedication and extensive education and training of these professionals prior to its own emergence in the year 2010 , viewing them prime suspects in the perpetuation of malpractice and misconduct .
So for doctors , there was only one way to fight the regulators : with unified action .
But how on earth was that ever to happen ?
Some ideas circulated among the less timid professionals :
• A boycott of registration with AHPRA
• An immediate cessation of CPD until research was completed on the net benefit of the current program on workforce participation , on public hospitals and on the health and morale of practitioners
• A campaign targeting the Minister for Health with a roll of toilet paper and a copy of ‘ I learnt to wipe my bum years ago ’, an article written by a GP working in Adelaide
• Passive resistance à la Gandhi , with an industry-wide hunger strike
• Just go along as normal , like sheep to the slaughter The Dearth inhabitants were products of an escape faction and the only known survivors of that bleak time .
The exodus of the small group became known as the ‘ Big Bust-Out ’, an echo of the Big Bang .
The plucky survivors clung to life on Dearth , plagued by generational survivor guilt and PTSD .
But they held dear to special dates of the year to commemorate their brave ancestors who overcame regulator brainwashing , vowing that history would not repeat itself , that dignity and selfworth would be preserved and that the imposition of hours of reflection on personal and professional values would never be imposed again .
They also honoured their persecuted ancestors on Earth , those who had looked up into the night sky to see the full moon , acknowledged that the moon was illuminated with reflected light from the Sun and accepted that that was reflection enough .
