VIVAXIM ® Salmonella typhi Vi polysaccharide ( 25 mcg ) and inactivated hepatitis A virus antigen ( 160 antigen units ) vaccine . Indication : Simultaneous active immunisation against typhoid fever and hepatitis A virus infection in persons 16 years of age and over . Dosage and administration : The two vaccine components must only be mixed immediately prior to injection ( see full Product Information ), 1mL of the mixed vaccine as slow IM into the deltoid region . A booster of hepatitis A is required 6 to 36 months later to ensure long-term protection against hepatitis A . Revaccination against typhoid fever should be carried out every 3 years for those who remain at risk . Contraindications : History of severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine or after previous administration of VIVAXIM . Febrile or acute disease . Precautions : Appropriate medical treatment and supervision should always be readily available in case of a rare anaphylactic reaction . Hypersensitivity – may contain traces of neomycin , formaldehyde and polysorbate . Do not administer by intravascular injection . Subcutaneous administration may increase the risk of local adverse reaction . Individuals
with thrombocytopenia or bleeding disorder . Impaired immune system . Syncope . Pregnancy and lactation – category B2 . Adverse reactions : Local reactions : pain , erythema , oedema / induration , ecchymosis . Systemic reactions : headache , asthenia , malaise , pyrexia , nausea , diarrhoea , myalgia , arthralgia , dizziness , pruritus , rash . Very rarely : vomiting , abdominal pain , anaphylactic / anaphylactoid reactions including shock , serum sickness , vasovagal syncope , urticaria , transaminases increased .
