Further funding support for Business Events Perth came in the WA Government ’ s recently announced A $ 185m Reconnect WA package that included A $ 15m for business events . This funding boost has already allowed Business Events Perth to secure two major health conferences which will bring a total of over 2,000 delegates to Western Australia in 2024 , injecting upwards of A $ 5m into the local economy .
The Reconnect WA package also includes A $ 65m to re-establish international flight routes affected by the pandemic , and helping secure new direct flights such as Qantas ’ recently announced Rome to Perth direct route .
Bradley Woods , chair of BE Perth , stated at the time of the funding announcement by State premier Mark McGowan : “ In 2019 , BE Perth generated
A $ 153m in confirmed business events with $ 5.3m in funding , which is an ROI of 1:29 , so we expect that this new funding from the WA State Government will generate significant economic returns for Western Australia and also support Perth ’ s CBD hotels which have borne the brunt of the pandemic .
“ With business event delegates spending up to five times more than their leisure counterparts and almost two-thirds of delegates choosing to attend a conference in order to extend their trip to take a holiday , the business events sector has a vital role to play in the ongoing recovery of WA ’ s overall tourism industry .”
