DAY 1 Sydney / Hunter Valley
Collect your hire car and drive two hours inland to the Hunter Valley and your chosen hotel . A good starting point is to call in to the Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre where guides and maps are available to help you get your bearings and plan your sightseeing . Pokolbin is a great base for the region , boasting numerous wineries , several top golf courses , craft breweries , day spas and an abundance of eateries ranging from fine dining , to organic , casual and everything in between .
DAY 2 Hunter Valley
No visit to the region would be complete without a winery tour to discover the process involved in getting the fruit from the vine into the bottle - and of course tasting it too ! Why not pick up a gourmet picnic hamper from a local store , then hire a bike and pedal your way around the appealing countryside , making time of course to stop off at cellar doors along the way ? Wineries range from big-names to boutique beauties that are hidden away down back roads . You ’ ll find ample scenic spots to soak up the glorious scenery and enjoy your picnic .
Other regional attractions include the Greg Norman designed golf course ( see Chateau Elan below ), the enchanting Hunter Valley Gardens plus a variety of day spas where you can be pampered royally .
DAY 3 Hunter Valley / Sydney
Perhaps rise early and take an unforgettable hot air balloon ride over the vineyards or , if you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground , visit some of the local shops to stock up on some of Hunter ’ s delicious local produce . All too soon , it ’ s time to return to Sydney where your tour concludes . Alternatively , why not extend your stay or consider adding on a few days in the Blue Mountains , see opposite .
