Figure 10. Carpal tunnel syndrome. scheduled ante- and postnatal appointments and births. She is on call at least once per week overnight. Miriam underwent a prophylactic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy because of a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer, and this caused POI.
Postoperatively, she was placed on treatment that included low-dose oestrogen, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and lifestyle measures. Miriam was able to continue working her normal duties postoperatively but stated that she experienced occasional low back pain that was not severe enough to impact on her work.
During the course of a recent childbirth, she slipped on liquid on the floor, falling onto her outstretched right arm, resulting in a distal radial fracture( see figure 15). Additional investigations at the time of the fracture revealed Miriam had significant osteopenia in both wrists, and in the femoral neck and lumbar spine.
There were some delays in the fracture healing, but Miriam went on to achieve fracture union. With appropriate physical therapy, she was able to
