DOJ Report
Don ’ t Buy The Lie
BY DARRELL KRIPLEAN , PRESIDENT , PLEA
Facts matter . The truth matters . Text without context is misleading and is used to deceive and manipulate outcomes .
It has taken the Department of Justice ( DOJ ) almost three years to complete an investigation into the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Police Department . The result ? One hundred twenty-six pages of innuendo and supposition portrayed as fact . They have provided no documentation to support their claims . In the almost three years of investigation , the DOJ investigators , “ career ” attorneys , and subject matter experts have spent millions of taxpayer dollars to simply provide exaggerated claims , use inflammatory language , and claim Phoenix Police officers are racist , biased , and engage in unconstitutional policing . The police department that is described in those 126 pages is unrecognizable to me . It is not the Phoenix Police Department . Do not be deceived .
Our elected officials , rightfully so , informed the DOJ they would not support a consent decree without full disclosure and supporting documentation of their findings . Instead , the DOJ released a scathing report to scare and intimidate council members into simply signing a consent decree . They have “ jumped the shark .” Despite their claims of “ transparency ,” the DOJ has failed the residents of Phoenix and is attempting to intimidate City leaders to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to “ reform ” your police department . This is not their first rodeo .
The DOJ does not want you to be reminded of the facts . Every consent decree has resulted in hundreds of millions of wasted taxpayer dollars , and Phoenix residents could expect costs to exceed $ 250 million . This would leave no money for other City projects and would negatively affect every other City department . Can we risk hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars without proof ?
Every consent decree has also resulted in increased violent crime rates . Don ’ t be fooled . DOJ representatives will attempt to convince you that consent decrees are successful . Have them define success . Can we risk public safety without proof ?
