2024 ASCE / SENH Joint Meeting

It is our turn to host the joint meeting with SENH this year and we have an exciting presentation lined up for you folks ! Join us on Wednesday , October 2 nd from 5:00pm – 8:30pm at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester , NH for food , beverages , and to get in on the action and general merriment to be had by all . Last year , the joint topic was sustainable concrete , so we thought it might be a good fit to do something similar with wood this year . Details surrounding Build America , Buy America requirements in the context of CLT will also be shared . Be there or be square !

Using Local Species in Cross-Laminated Timber - Eastern Hemlock and Spruce-Pine-Fir South
Over the last number of years , New England researchers , non-profits organizations , utilization foresters , private business and others have been promoting the benefits of using cross-laminated timber ( CLT ) – with the ultimate goal of manufacturing CLT in New England using local species . While there is currently no CLT manufacturer in New England , CLT sourced from New England forests is available realizing some of the community , economic and environmental benefits of “ local CLT ”. This presentation details the efforts to date and the current products available sourced from our region .
Bio
Andy Fast is an Extension Professor and Extension State Forest Industry Specialist with the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension . He joined UNH Extension as a County Forester in 2008 and has experience in a range of land management related positions in the northeast and western United States . He has a M . S . in Natural Resource with a concentration in Forestry from the University of New Hampshire .
Andy ' s primary responsibility for UNH Cooperative Extension is to provide statewide leadership and support to the forest industry through educational programing , business attraction and retention , economic development and research .
